The Dr. Morepen Pulse Oximeter (Model PO-12A) is designed for fingertip measurements of blood oxygen saturation levels (SpO2) and pulse rate. The device is intended for use by patients and healthcare professionals as an aid in the management of chronic respiratory diseases or the management of circulatory system diseases. The device is not designed to diagnose or test for respiratory or circulatory system problems.
The Dr. Morepen Pulse Oximeter is a small and portable device for the measurement of blood-oxygen saturation levels. The patient can measure his or her blood-oxygen saturation levels by simply placing one finger into the Fingertip Photoelectric sensor.
Principle of Operation
Light emitting diodes within the SpO2 sensor radiate red and infrared light through the tissue. The majority of sensors operate on extremities such as a finger, toe, or ear. Much of the light is absorbed by the blood, tissue, and bone at the application site. Some light does, however, get through the extremities. It is detected by a light-sensitive detector located opposite the light source.
The quantity of light detected by the detector describes the amount of oxygen linked to haemoglobin in the blood. Oxygenated haemoglobin (oxy-haemoglobin or HbO2) absorbs more infrared light than red light. Deoxygenated haemoglobin (Hb) absorbs more red light than infrared light. The SpO2 measurement is calculated by comparing the quantities of red and infrared light received.
